Overview

As a Church of England school, The Holme has very clear values and a strong Christian ethos which permeates every aspect of our school and is built around enjoyment in learning. We value the support and commitment which parents offer, both to the school as a whole and to their own child’s education. We believe that working together enables our children to achieve their full potential through high quality teaching and an exciting, values-based curriculum, holding our children at the heart of everything we do. The progress The Holme has made since becoming an academy has been remarkable. This success has been achieved under the direction of The Good Shepherd Trust, the academy arm of Guildford Diocese Education and involves two key elements; high quality leadership and high quality teaching.

Our values are at the very core of who we are and how we behave.  At The Holme our values are evident in our displays, in our celebrations, in our learning and in our collective worship.  We link values to stories, to current events and to our relationships with each other and our environment.   Children have lots of opportunities to put our values into action, by taking on responsibilities across the school, working with learning partners or intuitively at playtime in their games.  Staff, too, live by our values and are role models for the children — making sure values are explicitly referred to in our policies and that we follow these principles in our relationships with each other and how we work together.

Our pupils are encouraged to show respect and courtesy towards others.  Our time lessons on Monday mornings are a chance to learn how to treat each other with good manners and respect.  Each week children learn with a new partner, giving them opportunities to relate to each other, even with those they might never naturally choose to work with (an essential skill for life).

About Us

Aims and Values Our mission is to provide a safe, supportive environment where children will flourish with an emphasis on faith, love and learning. We achieve this through our caring family approach and strong relationships between the children, staff and parents. We provide a stimulating environment where children of all abilities can achieve their full academic, physical, spiritual and social potential.

Our values education creates a sound basis for the future success and happiness of our pupils. We support the children to learn through their STRENGTHS: Spirituality, Trust, Respect, Enjoyment, Nurture, Growth, Teamwork, High Expectations and Success.

The Good Shepherd Trust

The Good Shepherd Trust is a family of schools within the Diocese of Guildford that support and help each other yet each school in the Trust knows that they are unique.  They also recognise that they have important roles to play in the development of their communities - both educationally and spiritually.

Schools in the Trust use the vision and values of Jesus Christ as the basis of their work which means that they value each child as an individual - whatever their social, cultural or religious background.
